Vanilla

Vanilla is a plain text editor with no menus, no buttons, no status bar, few features, and best of all no distractions. I find the amount of clutter on the average word processor and editor a huge distraction when I’m writing, and Vanilla is a reaction to that problem. It is released for free (with no warranties, guarantees, nor any other form of tea) in the vain hope someone else will get some use out of it (use at your own risk).

If you’re looking for something like WriteRoom (I couldn’t find anything like WriteRoom for Linux, for example), then this might be the editor for you.

Download the zip file of the source from here, or the tar/bzipped version from here. The source repository can be found at www.briggs.net.nz/hg/vanilla.

A commercial (i.e. supported) version of Vanilla will be available in a few months time.
