Could it be possible to add functionality to ask for an answer to a simple math question (or the typical letters-in-a-blurry-picture or such) to prevent spambots from ordering?
When user presses Buy button in product page and gets redirected to order summary (?) page, it would be very handy if there would be a button to get back to the Products listing.
It would be good to have a template based way to define which address fields are necessary and in which order they should be presented in shipping/billing address definition and order confirmation views as well as confirmation email.
Again, email and phone number fields could be left to the last part of address details.
For Finland, I’d use address form(at) like
Name
Address 1
Zip City
Since the YAK admin section is getting bigger every release ( ) it might be wise to re-arrange it…
How about putting YAK as a top level menu item in wp-admin instead of that small yak tab hidden away under Manage. Surely, a shop on your blog is more important that to be hidden like that?
If that is done, maybe the Settings page can be broken up into different sub-pages (or hidden div sections that can be shown with javascript-click, really web2 style ) so the settings are not in that long scroll list anymore.
Suggestion:
* Have a way to filter ‘out of stock’ items into archives or into a separate page or category automatically (at quantity: x0). Basically so they no longer show up in the main area and congregate somewhere else for perusal (I’m thinking for hundreds of totally unique products with quantity: x1 as opposed to 1000’s who’s stock is always renewed.)
Just wondering if it would be possible to input a quantity custom tag in the post like for the price (and the link and shipping details for that matter) - it would mean I could use Fresh Post or More Fields plugins to have everything I need created in the post without going to another page.
Suggestion 2:
That it might be possible to have more than one price for a product, ie different prices for different variations of the same product, ie so the same product made in different materials or colours could be priced differently.
It would be brilliant if the user could create an ‘account’ (ie become a Wordpress subscriber) and then the shopping details could be linked and the user can see their orders etc, update their address and contact details - and maybe there could be a ‘field’ for category/type of customer (eg business or personal etc) which the shop owner would set.
I really like that idea, thanks. Will consider it for the next version of YAK. In won’t be in the near future though, unfortunately. I don’t have a lot of spare time at the moment.
I was wondering what you thought of Upekshapriya’s second suggestion above: the ability to create variations of a single product.
I am looking to do a simple e-commerce site, and Yak is perfect for that, except for that one feature. I looked at wp-ecommerce, which does handle variation, but I found that system overly complicated and prefer yours.
Hey, have you considered making this compatible with Wordpress MU? If I drop it in the plugins folder and activate it on a blog, it works fine mostly, except the cart is broken and the sub-links in the admin page don’t work because they try to go to the URI of the site, not the blog. The settings pages work fine if I add the blog name to the URI. I’m using sub-directories on my Wordpress MU installation; yak might work fine with sub-domains, but I can’t test.
An option that allows for payment in different currencies would be great (for example, local currency for deposits and cheques, then USD for Paypal). If integrating a currency converter would be too complicated maybe the user could just manually input the different prices for each currency, like: 400 PHP, 15 USD, etc.
Just some suggestion
1. ability to create product w/ setting products category name (
2. auto create payment page (url redirest) for payment (atleast paypal, deposit and cheque)
3. replace product tipe using atribute creator (currest tipe just gonna make unnecessari category) or maybe using wordpress custom field
4. remove all shortcode in product creation and move to wordpress custom field or anything like that
but is you think realy need to create that page may be add some shop screen shot from all user in commanet page or your project related to onine shop creation using wordpress and yak.
coz i think when there are nice shop create using yak people gonna ask “how you do that” so every one gonna answer that, so yak quality gonna improve coz alot off idea and code gonna come. but when people ask “how to create product” (sure, a lot off people forget to settting products category name aor create category “product” and “default”) the quality of yak si stuck
I haven’t merged the pages, because I’m trying to avoid making the YAK project page too large. As it is the instructions make the page longer than I’d like.
so. any plan to make yak:
1. able to create product without create category “products”
2. replace product tipe using atribute creator, may be integrate custom field using fresh-post more-fields or something similar, (currest tipe just gonna make unnecessari category(default, balck, white, etc )
3. auto create some usefull page (ceckout, cart, payment, product page / listing)
4. remove all non page shortcode (yak_price, yak_buy, etc) and replace with another style (same as point 2)
1. the category stuff is kind of integral to the way YAK works now. To remove it will require some effort — to which I’d rather put toward new features. But see point 3 below.
2. not sure I understand what you mean with this one.
3. I’m not going to add auto-create by default, but I will add some buttons to allow the admin to auto-create various pages. I think adding a feature to auto-create product categories might also be a good idea as well.
4. The shortcodes are positional — meaning you can place the price, quantity or buy button where you want in the post. So I’m not sure those other plugins add any value.
how to create product color variation?
i have a tshirt
i want it has dropdown color selection like blue, Red, Green
do i need to put in category blue, Red, Green so it wil auto generate dropdown (yak habit is auto generate dropdown from every category under product default category when we put product on it)
please…
i hope there is another way, it’s just gonna make category list look funny
Yes you create categories: Red, Green and Blue. The *parent* of these categories should be the “Products” category. Then when you create your product post, tick the category colours. You’ll need to set quantities for each colour variation as well (from the Products management screen).
Could it be possible to add functionality to ask for an answer to a simple math question (or the typical letters-in-a-blurry-picture or such) to prevent spambots from ordering?
Could it be possible to have red asterisks (*) in the end of mandatory form field names?
Notifying about missing one(s) afterwards is cool, but preventing the error would be even cooler
I found myself “finetuning” the positioning of some TH fields, as follows:
* yak_view_cart.php: in table “shoppinglist1″ I set Title class=left, Price and Subtotal right, and Qty center.
* yak_view_confirm.php: in table “confirm2″ I set Title class=left.
Minor thing, I know…
When user presses Buy button in product page and gets redirected to order summary (?) page, it would be very handy if there would be a button to get back to the Products listing.
You can click on the links for the products in the order. Not sure what else you might be thinking of in this case…?
A “Continue shopping” button.
I’d use that button to bring user back to the category which has all products.

Good point. Will keep it in mind for the next release.

Regarding suggestion #1, do you mean to display the quantity, or to set the quantity when editing the post?
I meant setting the quantity, the link for downloads and shipping weight in the post rather than having to go to the yak page after.

I don’t think it’s a difficult change — so will definitely consider it for the next version.

I haven’t actually looked at MU to be honest. At some point, I’ll take a look, and see if it’ll be a straightforward fix…

I’d be happy to add user submitted screenshots.
